D&D (2024) Hobby Store Exclusive (Special Cover) PHB Pre-Orders Cancelled

It's not the AU site, when I pulled it up it referred to a US site and address. It's not the australia address I was referring to previously. It came up in my searches...but as it has no .au identifier on it, had a US contact address...I assumed that one was for a US shop. I referred to it with the price because it was interestingly enough...gameology.

Didn't check for validity of sites, I was doing search engine sites on if I could get any thing about who was offering alternative cover PHBs from Australia (and another for NZ. I got several hits for Australia, but this wasn't the one I referred to for the .au address. This one doesn't have a .au address (if you notice it is something else). I only went about 4-5 pages deep in each search engine. This page was actually harder to find today than it was last night. Last night I think this page popped up on the first page or two of a google search, today it did not. Not sure why.

I didn't get any hits for .nz addresses for online retailers of the PHB...either sold out, available, or anything. Not a single hit from a .nz address for anyone who was selling the alternate covers for the PHB.

I DID notice one thing though, and gave warning about it. I DID observe that several sites that were selling the NORMAL PHB cover version with .au and .nz addresses were already sold out or having a very few copies left. It would appear the initial run of the PHB (normal cover) may be a hot item...period. amazon.com.au didn't seem to have any warnings though. However, if the internet is any indication, and you want a PHB but didn't get the alternative cover...I'd probably run down to the shops today and make sure to reserve a copy just in case...cause the appearances from what I got from my searches show that the NORMAL covers are even running low with the pre-orders already.

We are very careful now with ordering. Wife likes best price I like most reliable.

Buying online that most means Mightyape.co.nz. other sites are a crapshoot. Amazon's reliable enough the postage sucks you may as well buy retail.

Would you post to Mw Zealand? Asking for a friend lol.
I honestly would love to, but I suspect that the shipping would be stupidly expensive - though I have sometimes heard that shipping from my place to, say Seattle (a 2+ hour drive) can often be more expensive than shipping to Australia (a 15 hour flight), so... who knows?

But I'm out of the cover you like now anyhow, and I don't think I'll be able to get any more.

That's a bit strange - they should have sent it to you in the past week.

I have had some "moments" with GameNerdz and Miniature Market where, despite something coming out on a release date, I had to wait for the product to arrive at their place to ship it to me.

They are my two main places , alongside Noble Knight Games and Atomic Empire, that I order from. Rarely do I have a problem with them and the last two moments occurred during gencon of last year/and a holiday.

Still, I did have to resort to Ebay to get my limited edition alt cover of The Book of Ebon Tides(GameNerzd moment) due to a stock/pre order mishap in 2022/2023.
Update: I have just received an email today stating my order has been shipped.

If you want the retailer exclusive cover, then yes. The regular cover will stay in print for the foreseeable future, and you can wait, if you like, for a box set, which will probably come eventually, and may have yet another cover.
I'll wait for the eventual box, I collect them, I don't play unfortunately. It's like I purchase them for the pleasure of reading them but I never do that, I wonder why I still purchase them.

From what I can tell these retailers are affected:
  • Good games (35 stores)
  • Ronin (2 stores)
  • Gameology (2 stores)
I don't know which ones aren't. Has anyone identified a retail outlet in Australia or NZ that isn't affected?
I'm in Australia, I buy a bit of stuff at Gameology or Good Games (they're kinda the big dogs on the block, in terms of physical game stores and online sales respectively), but there's quite a number of smaller game stores too - milsims, gumnut, etc. None of the ones in my city, that I'm aware of, have the alt cover PHB available right now. One is listed as sold out, the rest simply don't have a listing.

I haven't ordered/bought the thing myself mind you, I was going to wait until all three core books were out (besides, my current campaign has an artificer and a warlord, and the new PHB ain't gonna help me much there!), and i hadn't decided on which covers to go with.

It's very, very, very far from the first time that WotC have had distribution problems here though. SotDQ (unless you bought the deluxe box) was delayed here until something like 6 months after the supposed official release date. That was an extreme case, but significant delays are routine.

Still, I can't complain, at least we're better off than the non-English-speakers who wait years for bad translations...
