are you sure? when I go to their site they do not even list it and the 2014 PHB is at full price…

Last night...yes.

It was REALLY REALLY cheap last night.

Edit: Just went back to check, yep...looks like it is still somewhat cheap on the site even...

Edit to edit: didn't like the last screen so redoing it with another screenshot

Well I'm directly effected. Here's what it does.

Basically it sucks a lot of enthusiasm out of the launch. It's about two months after gencon early access so you have essentially been excluded from early conversations for a month or two.

For example I don't really know what weapon properties are except in vague terms.

My pre order got canceled. It probably means I can't get the alt cover and I don't like the normal cover.

Gamestore we play at doesn't know when they dan get any phb. Other one could but haven't been back recently post cancelation.

It adds up to be frustrating enough that we will likely buy the minimum 2024 and stick with 2014. Core rules, new FR and any S tier products eg CoS or LMoP equivalent.

Various local Facebook groups are negative on this latest cock up mostly indifferent to 2024 version in general. Glorified errata isn't really appealing enough to drop $200 on the books.

Not that this will do you any good...

BUT...if you are curious about the weapon properties and such, the rules are available via D&D Beyond online. They have many of the rules (and classes, only one sub-class/archetype per class though).

I have TRIED to make a new character with the new rules but thus far the character builder has seemed to crash on me before I have finished my character, but the rules themselves are there.

Not that this is a good answer or a good replacement for a hardcopy (not even close), but it could help with some of your curiosity about what certain rules do and how they interact.

That would involve using D&D beyond though;)

Uhm...wow.

Edit: If they accepted Paypal I'd order one just to see if they actually sold it at that price. Though something doesn't feel right about this site...

EDIT: Yeah the email address seems off and the fact that it has a paypal emblem at the bottom but doesn't offer paypal is sending all kind of alarm bells off for me.

It doesn't seem to be linked from gameology.com.au. I agree suspicious.

Obviously did not happen for the .com site I used which did not have the book at all...

It's not the AU site, when I pulled it up it referred to a US site and address. It's not the australia address I was referring to previously. It came up in my searches...but as it has no .au identifier on it, had a US contact address...I assumed that one was for a US shop. I referred to it with the price because it was interestingly enough...gameology.

Didn't check for validity of sites, I was doing search engine sites on if I could get any thing about who was offering alternative cover PHBs from Australia (and another for NZ. I got several hits for Australia, but this wasn't the one I referred to for the .au address. This one doesn't have a .au address (if you notice it is something else). I only went about 4-5 pages deep in each search engine. This page was actually harder to find today than it was last night. Last night I think this page popped up on the first page or two of a google search, today it did not. Not sure why.

I didn't get any hits for .nz addresses for online retailers of the PHB...either sold out, available, or anything. Not a single hit from a .nz address for anyone who was selling the alternate covers for the PHB.

I DID notice one thing though, and gave warning about it. I DID observe that several sites that were selling the NORMAL PHB cover version with .au and .nz addresses were already sold out or having a very few copies left. It would appear the initial run of the PHB (normal cover) may be a hot item...period. amazon.com.au didn't seem to have any warnings though. However, if the internet is any indication, and you want a PHB but didn't get the alternative cover...I'd probably run down to the shops today and make sure to reserve a copy just in case...cause the appearances from what I got from my searches show that the NORMAL covers are even running low with the pre-orders already.

I was tempted, but not tempted enough to order anything from them.

With the added statements from people here...I decided to do a little more looking (remember, I was simply looking to find .au addresses last night that had the PHB...as I stated, this was a US address and did not have the .au identifier at the end of it, so didn't count it as one available to .au address. I wasn't after a deep search, but quick search so didn't do indepth validations, and definately didn't do indepth validations for non .an or .nz addresses)

I did look at the address provided for them. It looks like it goes to a white double storied house in South Carolina in a subdivision. Glad someone pointed it out, as yeah...now that someone points it out...I'm glad I didn't fall to the temptation as I don't trust the site either now.

I suppose if one wanted to do even MORE research, they could actually contact them via the email address listed on the site. That's a tad more than I'm wanting to do though for a simple discussion of what is going on with the alternative covers in Australia and New Zealand.
