Why do people keep spelling soldier as solider? Is this an inside joke I'm missing?

Other than that little nitpick, you have some nice ideas.
Phalanx Soldier might be better for any class though rather than just hobgoblins. Also, I'd tweak it so that it only gave +1 AC to you, but also gave +1 AC to each adjacent ally with a shield. Maybe make Int +15 a requirement?

I like formation strike for the most part, but I don't like the fighter specific extra ability and I don't understand why a flail is a requirement.

Yes, there is an inside joke about the solider, but if you are not on the "inside" then I can't tell you. Sorry.

Phalanx Solider was taken from the MM entry for Hobgoblin. There it's a +2 bonus for the hobgoblin and nothing for the ally. I'm guessing because if the ally had the same ability (and in the MM they do) then the bonuses would start adding up pretty quick. I don't have it as a feat for any class since I was trying to create specific feats for my homebrewed hobgoblin race and pretty much ripped it off from the MM.

As for Formation Strike, I'm not sure why a flail is needed either, again I ripped this off from the MM and there it says a flail is needed for the ability. I added the fighter specific extra ability because the fighter already has an ability similar to this called Passing Attack. Passing Attack lets them attack, shift, and make a secondary attack. Because of that there would be no reason for a fighter to take this feat, so I added the fighter extra going in flavor of the fighter's "Melee Weapon Groups and Associated Statistics"

OK, I'll let you in on the joke...it's a typo! Don't tell anyone.
