Does Holy Word, Dictum et al. work when the caster is not on his/her home plane?

Does Holy Word, Dictum et al. affect animals? The words in the description would indicate yes, but this seems a little funny. I would be especially concerned about the effects on the friendly Druid's animal companions.

Partly. The banishment effect does not, but the non-good creatures killed/paralyzed/blinded/deafened effect does.

Does Holy Word, Dictum et al. affect animals?

If they're non-good creatures within 30 feet who hear the word, certainly.

Tell the druid to get thirty feet away.

Hell, I've played a CN Cleric who cast Holy Word and deafened himself, because it was the best way to get rid of the CE demons. (He can't cast Dictum, so Holy Word was the only one he could use to banish them all...)
