Has anyone considered the possibility that the racial languages might consist primarily of what are essentially hardwired animal calls.
and then common could have been a conglomerate formed out of words that one species had to borrow from another due to their natural vocabulary lacking a word for that concept. This would allow it to have independently come about in largely the same form in multiple places

The animal call thing would also provide a natural skew to each species culture and potentially also to its subsequent biological evolution

Also I think it's more interesting and fantastical if the traits of elves or dwarves are inborn in general. If elves had elvish hardwired into their brains from birth and could pick up a longsword, a rapier, or a bow and use it properly without having ever seen one before it would hammer home the fact that they're meant to be created beings, with thought and purpose behind them
