Honeymarsh Academy (D&D3.5) Chapter 2

Osbry holds up his hand to try and stop the conversation.

"Ahem. The Helm of Korin."

As the area goes silent, Osbry takes out his ocarina again (it is kept on a leather thong around his neck) and plays a short chirping tune. The notes become colors, and the colors begin to fold in on themselves to form an abstract 3-dimensional shape.

Once again Alek and Kytheria (with their knowledge of Spellcraft) recognize the workings of spell-magic. In this case, prestidigitation.

Osbry puts the ocarina away. The colorful blob of light hangs in the air, moving and twisting in on itself.

"The Helm of Korin." he repeats, and the lights bend and flow into a 3-dimensional helmet-like shape that rotates slowly. It is an ancient full-face helmet, with a crown of what looks like stylized leaves worked in silver around the top, and a simple labyrinth-pattern repeated down the center.

"This was an artifact worn by the hero Korin around 2 centuries ago. It was a gift given to him by the bird-goddess Finch. It requires the strength of a hero to touch- normally I wouldn't even be able to carry it, although some of you might be able to. However, the helm itself is as light as a feather. A few years ago we determined that the apparent weight is somehow connected to the bearer. I was able to move it easily with Mage-Hand, for example. Eh.. I don't want to describe what happens when you try to put it on if you aren't up to carrying the weight. But there are some out there who can handle it.

The helm confers certain powers of prowess and Fey affinity. It is also -we now believe- an intelligent, thinking item. Korin wore it to rescue the divine child of Meti from the Witchqueen Sycora. He was successful. He wore it for nearly 20 years after that, until his eventual death in battle on one of the lower planes
."

Osbry manipulates the images of flickering light to show the divine symbols of Finch (a flying bird with a flower clutched in it's claws) and Meti (a mermaid holding a conch shell surrounded by seven stars).

"We believe the buyer was a woman named Graeze, who appeared several times at the school last year and made some very obvious offers to buy the thing from us. She had set up a potion shop in town. On the evening of the theft, she abruptly disappeared, leaving her shop behind."

He manipulates the shifting patterns of light and this time creates a sort of hand-mirror shape. On the face of it, the form of a striking-looking woman with glittering green eyes is shown. The mirror rotates slowly so that everyone can get a good look at her.

"This is her. We're hoping if you find her, you find the Helm."

Bahuman acknowledges the new arrivals, though he thinks the Queen Bee looks slightly ridiculous, but halflings were always an odd race, though better bakers than adventurers.

"Pretty woman she is," says Bahuman. "This should be an enjoyable task. And a very neat trick of yours, this image."

Arvin watches closely while noisly licking honey from his fingers. When Osbry pauses Arvin speaks up.
"This Graeze, you say she had a potion shop? Was she a wizard, or an alchemist or something? I just wanna know what we're up against." He pauses, licking the last of the honey from the bottom of the jar. "Do you think there's any way she could wear this helm?"

Bartlin: Queens Knight 6

Bart looks at the image of the woman and frowns, "She's most certainly an Arcanist of some sort. we have to assume she's using magic to transport the Helm." Feeling almost jealous of the ability she may have.

"Do you think we should look for clues to where she went at the abandoned shoppe?" Bartlin says while mounting Morninglight.

You are intrrupted by the creaking of the garden gateway, and a silvery headless humanoid construct figure enters, seems to look around for a moment, and finally locates Osbry. He walks to him stiffly and hands over a scroll.

Osbry cancels his prestidigitation spell and takes the scroll impatiently. He unrolls it with distaste, scanning the contents.

"It seems I must be going. There's a faculty meeting I've forgotten. Well, you are on your own. I do hope you can recover the helm."

Osbry leaves with the construct.

OOC: This is where you will all have to decide what you want to do, where you want to go next. Potentially this can be a bog down point, so try and stick together, and try and come to a decision fairly quickly. If you need to coordinate OOC, feel free to do so here, or use the OOC forum or do whatever else you like. Already there is a suggestion to investigate the site of the closed shop, but honestly, you could choose anything. The important thing is to stick together.

Small folk...
Seeker looks askance a the appearence of the giant bee. "Well met, Bart. I think that, perhaps, that is an excellent idea."

"Mr. Osbry, who were the two ringleaders that you have not caught yet? Do you think that it would be worth our while to track them down? What sort of training did those two possess?"

The tall human's gaze turns inward as he thinks, Did I forget anything? Oh! Yes! "You said you had a fair notion of where this Graeze was... where would that be?"

Turning to the others he says, "Perhaps I speak out of turn. Is this indeed what our class wants to do? It sounds interesting to me, but I recognize that I've not had much to do for some time."

"I think that perhaps we should look for clues in this shop of hers first. Since that is really all we have to work with at this time."

Kytheria

Remaining silent for the most part, the young woman listens closely to Osbrys recounting of what happened to the helmet. When the party talks about what they would like to do, she keeps quiet, and follows wherever they decide to go.

"And here we got some more students.... A bee-riding halfing of the Queen, and a Seeker. I feel so out of place here, yet I know, somehow, that this is where I belong - for now. To help these souls find the light, to guide them through the darkness as it ever close in on us. Now is not the time though, not yet!"
