Osbry holds up his hand to try and stop the conversation.
"Ahem. The Helm of Korin."
As the area goes silent, Osbry takes out his ocarina again (it is kept on a leather thong around his neck) and plays a short chirping tune. The notes become colors, and the colors begin to fold in on themselves to form an abstract 3-dimensional shape.
Once again Alek and Kytheria (with their knowledge of Spellcraft) recognize the workings of spell-magic. In this case, prestidigitation.
Osbry puts the ocarina away. The colorful blob of light hangs in the air, moving and twisting in on itself.
"The Helm of Korin." he repeats, and the lights bend and flow into a 3-dimensional helmet-like shape that rotates slowly. It is an ancient full-face helmet, with a crown of what looks like stylized leaves worked in silver around the top, and a simple labyrinth-pattern repeated down the center.
"This was an artifact worn by the hero Korin around 2 centuries ago. It was a gift given to him by the bird-goddess Finch. It requires the strength of a hero to touch- normally I wouldn't even be able to carry it, although some of you might be able to. However, the helm itself is as light as a feather. A few years ago we determined that the apparent weight is somehow connected to the bearer. I was able to move it easily with Mage-Hand, for example. Eh.. I don't want to describe what happens when you try to put it on if you aren't up to carrying the weight. But there are some out there who can handle it.
The helm confers certain powers of prowess and Fey affinity. It is also -we now believe- an intelligent, thinking item. Korin wore it to rescue the divine child of Meti from the Witchqueen Sycora. He was successful. He wore it for nearly 20 years after that, until his eventual death in battle on one of the lower planes."
Osbry manipulates the images of flickering light to show the divine symbols of Finch (a flying bird with a flower clutched in it's claws) and Meti (a mermaid holding a conch shell surrounded by seven stars).
"We believe the buyer was a woman named Graeze, who appeared several times at the school last year and made some very obvious offers to buy the thing from us. She had set up a potion shop in town. On the evening of the theft, she abruptly disappeared, leaving her shop behind."
He manipulates the shifting patterns of light and this time creates a sort of hand-mirror shape. On the face of it, the form of a striking-looking woman with glittering green eyes is shown. The mirror rotates slowly so that everyone can get a good look at her.
"This is her. We're hoping if you find her, you find the Helm."
