House Rules Suck

Because I know what I like.

If I dont like it, I dont put up with it and work to come up with something more suitable and will be fun for all concearned.

...and its not like any of the D&D's from the first to the current one don't have any problems, if youre honestly that nieve then we should all be good little no-brainer plebs who pay their money, stick our heads up our arses and have a nice cup of shut up.
Yeah, right as if.
I like this game, its the best of the current lot of D&D's, but its not perfect and I never expected it to be and sometimes the burrs need to be brushed up. You see, those people make games for money, we play games for fun and I ask you. "Who's game is this?"

As someone else said, WotC didn't design the game specifically for me. I'm starting with a world and fitting the d20 system to it. There will be some changes just for flavor.

Also, the new DR system in 3.5E is very similar to the one I've been using for 15 or so years. Since the "experienced game designers" are just finally adding it in, I guess that just makes me ahead of the curve.

By 15E, the official rules will have finally caught up with my house rules. But by then, I'll be even further ahead. :)

Actually, I shouldn't be too indignant here - I had a retort all typed out that, well... pretty much mirrored Rary's. I guess I managed to a Natural 20 at the last second... :D

Cheers!

The only thing I hate about house rules is that, if you're a guy like me who jumps from game to game, it can be a real pain in the ass to be confronted with different's DM's house rules.

Not only have I not learned the 3E rules (Haven't played enough to learn them all, yet), but now I gotta memorize the house rules for one game? And of course, that game tanks after 2 games. Then I find another game, and I gotta learn ANOTHER set of house rules. That campaign, too, tanks in turns. So I jump to another game. Learn a wholly DIFFERENT set of house rules. Whoops! That game tanked as well.

What I wouldn't give to play a game house rule free for once. At least for a while. Introduce house rules only AFTER the campaign's lasted more than a handful of games. Certainly more than 2 games. But before then, I don't want to see hide nor hair of house rules.

My god, Gary Gygax said it best that house rules scum up the D&D game, and that it isn't true D&D.

You are a

, but Gary's a

also. That was probably an April's Fool editorial anyway, didn't Jary Jyjax house-ruled Dunjeon & Drajon so much it becames Danjerous Journey, and then even more house-ruled to become Lejendary Adventures ?
