House Rules Suck

I have no house rules. I follow the books as close as I possibly can, only becasue I'm truly a lazy slob and if I have to take the effort to change it, it most likely doesn't need it and works fine as it is. Besides, house ruling D20 doesn't really suit it, IMHO.

Well, I take that back, I did rule the Harm spell out. I never liked it the way it was. After listening to that Ed Stark interview I do believe I'll put it back in for 3.5

I'll admit to a few house rules. I have about one page of notes - mostly lifting race and class restrictions (treat all races as humans for MC, lose druid oath, pally + monk MC, etc) and a few choice spells like polymorph and harm. Other than that I play it pretty straight.

I don't mind a couple house rules. But if someone says they have redone the monk and ranger, changed how arcane magic works, and has their own custom XP system I'm going to be less inclined to play. I want to play D&D, not your remix version :P.

Basically, the key is balance. If a given rule doesn't work, change it so it does work. But don't feel the need to reinvent the wheel. Think simple changes.

A feeling? It's amazing what reading an entire thread can do to save feeling foolish. Perhaps when Talath said this:

Well guys, it's time to score this troll

Initial Score: -50

Self Post to Initial Thread: -5
Inspired Thread +20

Total Score: -3

you could have rested assured it was indeed a troll.

Fine...it might be a troll, but I'll respond anyway.

I house rule because many of the 3e rules drive me up the wall.

Here's a copy of my house rules (so far) if anyone wants to see them:

jeez talath is catchin up to bugaboo....only this troll wasnt cheesy...pretty slick.
Yeah, this was slick. But man, if you missed Bugaboo's DM service thread, you haven't seen a troll! That thing was a classic; I've rarely seen one so good.

Sorry, I'm one of those poor souls myself -- I couldn't convince my wife to let go of the purse strings for a messagboard about D&D the same year we're buying a house! :(

Anyway, I'm pretty sure it was enboards v1 anyway, although it might be archived.
