How a Hippy Hurt My Party (Long)

So that you are aware, the Regenerate Wounds spell will only heal those wounds that occure AFTER the spell is cast - making it a pretty good spell instead of an amazing spell!!!

Actually, it is an amazing spell: it grants fast healing, which will cure any wounds, not just ones inflicted after the spell's casting.

In our campaign, we house-ruled this spell so that it has a 1-minute casting time, making it useful only outside of battle. Otherwise, the druid becomes in many ways a better healer than the cleric.

Are you sure about this? - This was how our group originally played it, but then after re-reading it - changed it to only those wonds after it was cast....

I don't have my MotW in from of me - so I can't verify.

My group knocked down the duration a little but had it actually act like fast healing rather then a quasi regeneration/fast healing mix. . .

much simpler

Are you referring to the same spell as Utrecht, i.e. Regenerate Light (or Moderate, etc.) Wounds, from MotW? In that case, he's right & you aren't using it as written. The spell specifically says that the "healing applies only to damage sustained during the spell's duration, not to that from previous injuries."

Well damn.

If it's just damage sustained AFTER the casting, then I see nothing wrong with the spell (It's pretty weak considering!). It can't be used Out of combat becuase you have to be hit afterwards, and it takes a long time to fill your HPS back up, as apposed to a Cure Serious Wounds that hits you right then and there.

Actually, I loooooooove the spell.

As a melee focused Druid, (or any other melee char) I generally cast it on myself before combat and then run up and fight away.

Then if it turns out that I get whacked down to say -8 hp, my party members do not have to worry about reviving me because I have my inherent self-stabilization and come up to 0 on my own.... So for that alone it is worth it.

Further, you get more out of it then an equivelent level cure spell - assuming that you can plan for it.
