D&D 5E How are people currently feeling about 5e?

I will be watching. But not with any sort of notion or prerelease investment. I got really amped about 4e and when it hit it was a big let down for me personally, so I will not let myself get excited about it until I see some print. I want to like 5e and remain hopeful that this may be an option for me. But the really great part about this is that this time I have three systems of the d20 flavor that my groups already really like (Pathfinder, d20 modern, 3.5) so if 5e does not deliver I am still going to be in a great place gamewise.

The release of 4e was different, at first I didn't know how easy it would be to still find good 3.x eras fantasy and modern games locally. As it turned out it was very easy. But I was still unhappy after I tried 4e and realized it wasn't my bag. But the previous edition climate is AWESOME, so this time around I don't have to watch the release with such scrutiny as it does not have as a direct of an impact on my gaming if it comes out of the gate with the suck.

That being said, I want 5e to be awesome. I will playtest and offer feedback. I would be lying if I said I didnt have strong doubts about whether or not the system will be something I will end up liking and buying. But the doubts I can live with and they are not judgments. I will keep my eyes open and really take a look at the material before I decide for me an mine about the new edition. I can't say that Monte leaving and some of the other things I have seen thus far fills me with confidence, but I am just going to keep my head up and try and take a look at what if offered for public consumption with an open mind.

We will see what is to become in the next few weeks anyways. I am looking forward to it.

love,

I'm cautiously optimistic. There has been some really interesting discussion on the way that classes work and some of the racial options...but the recent article about non-magical healing, and all of the talk about healing surges and second winds has made me skittish. If the new edition has 4E-style healing, it will be a very hard sell to me and my gaming group.

I could cry about it, or hope the rumors aren't true...so I choose hope.

I am much more optimistic than I have been at any point at the past & am rather excited. I have realised that most of the moronic rants do not reflect what the designers seem to be saying but are just a few sad cases of self important entitlement.

Even if the game is not a perfect match for me, I would be happy with a cleaner version of 4e, then I am sure there will be a lot of good & interesting design in it. It will stimulate local RP community despite seeming to think exploration is not very dull & interaction an almost equal component alongside combat ;)

I am dubious about 5e at this point, but I hold out hope that even if I don't think it's stupendousness in a hardcover that it will at least be a version I like enough to want to play it instead of a house-ruled version of an older edition.
