How awful is this house rule? (removing AoOs)

I totally agree with this. I dislike AoOs that prevent you from doing what you were trying to do in the first place. This is why I stick to damage attack only. There no I sunder your weapon before you sunder mine things.

Another thing, I'll roll any AoOs that the player's draw quickly while they are still describing their actions. I find that if I say, "If you do X, you will take an AoO" it will cause them to reconsider. But if I say, "If you do X, you will take 5 points of damage," they usually will do it anyway.
