How do i meet those high spellcraft DC's ?

Aven

First Post
I was reading the epic-level issue of dragon, and i came across a few new epic-level spells. I noticed the LOWEST dc was slightly below 70, if i recall correctly, and the highest was 200+ !! if this is the spread we can see in the EHL, how can epic level characters in the 21- 30 range expect to meet these on a regular basis ? i mean, even with a primary spellcasting stat of 30 (reasonable, given epic level characters) and max ranks we're looking at a 10+ (at 30th lvl) 33 = 43, plus a few for misc or skill focus bonuses so we say 45. now with a twenty on the dice we've got at most a 65. Average spells seem to be somewhere in the 100's!!!. Any ideas on how we can reasonably meet these DC's ?

Personally, I'd go for Epic Skill Focus. That should give reasonable access to the epic spells meant for 21-30th level characters. Those spells with higher Spellcraft DCs are propably meant for higher level characters. I do think that the spread of Spellcraft DCs will be more evened out. Plus, you can, if the DM allows it, create your own epic spells using so called Spell Seeds, which may have a lower Spellcraft DC.

Your spellcraft check could get really high fairly quickly at 30th.

Stat 30 equals +10
Max Ranks equals +33
Hand of Divinity spell equals +20
Wield skill equals +10
d20 roll maxes at +20

So, that alone is 93.

Assuming that spell is only suppose to be used by character around 50 That shouldn't be too hard to hit.

Just get a ring that adds +60 to Spellcraft (720,000gp) or even +90 to Spellcraft (1,620,000gp). :D

Sidebar: Although, it's really funny how they price these things.

Ring of Spellcraft +29; 16,820
Ring of Spellcraft +30; 18,000
Ring of Spellcraft +31; 192,200

Just a bit of a leap there towards the end. Very, very strange. This kinda goes along with my bitching about the stat increase thing too.

Check your math--you're off by a factor of 10 on your +31. A Ring of Spellcraft +31 would be 19,220 (31^2 * 20). Your +60 and +90 are also off by a factor of 10.

I don't need to. It's correct.

Wrong. It's correct. A skill bonus higher than +30 is an epic bonus and is more expensive. If you don't like it, fine, but don't bitch at me, bitch at those who wrote it.

As you can see Krenolds is kinda Peved-Off about the whole thing. :D

I am peved. ;) The pricing thing is just silly. There's a giant leap in price for bonuses and enhancements instead of the usual sliding scale. Know what that means? That means that I have to "fix" it now. Argh.

Not grumpy. knight_isa was just kinda pompus by telling me to "check my math" when he didn't even know what he was talkin' about, so I figured I'd just smack him onto his <bleep!>. :D

Wieldskill is a spell from Magic of Faerun. I'm not sure about the Hand of Divinity, though. There is a similar spell on the WotC site, Guidance of the Avatar: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=dnd/sb/sb20020608x .
I'm not really sure if these spells actually help. It was my understanding that this is the Research DC (but since I do not have certain illegal sources to read through, I can't be 100% sure :p - and I don't want an illegal source). Thus, it would propably take a long time to make that check, longer than the duration of most spells that would be helpful.
