How do you craft a homunculus

The D&D Compendium when it was first launched had five rituals from the monster manual that were not IN the monster manual. One of which was Create Homunculus. Luckily I copied them all before they were removed from the Compendium. Here is the Create Homunculus one.

Create Homunculus

You construct a creature out of some base material, such as iron or stone, and give it a semblance of life.

Level: The homunculus’s level or higher
Category: Creation
Time: 1 hour; see text
Duration: Permanent
Component Cost: 5,000 gp per level of the homunculus
Market Price: 50,000 gp
Key Skill: Arcana
This ritual animates a homunculus. The ritual can be performed only after the homunculus’s body is crafted—a process taking 1 day per level of the homunculus. The ritual takes 1 hour to perform. At the end of the ritual, the homunculus awakens and begins following its creator’s commands.

For the record the other four rituals were; Aboleth Servitor, Create Golem, Create Guardian, and Create Helmed Horror.

Dunno if you would get any use out of it, but Dragon #246 has some rules and fluff for homonculi. It's for 2e, but maybe you could glean some stuff for converting or flavor.

Thats pretty awesome actually. I imagine they didn't include them due to the whole 'economy of actions' business. Still, they might be appropriate for the right kind of group / game.

Could you post / PM the rest?

What? No experience boost? Maybe I can get some with the rest of the rituals. I posted these way back when I first found them but can't find the post now.

Here they are...

Aboleth Servitor

The aboleth overseer embeds a psychic pod in the mind of its enslaved victim, rendering it comatose. Over the course of several hours, the creature’s skin turns translucent and slimy, and at the end of the ritual it awakens with an overwhelming desire to serve its horrid master.

Level: 18
Category: Binding
Time: 1 minute
Duration: Special
Component Cost: None
Market Price: None
Key Skill: Arcana
This ritual turns the subject—which must be a humanoid creature—into an aboleth servitor. The subject must be affected by the aboleth overseer’s enslave ability. Although the ritual takes only 1 minute to complete, the transformation into a servitor takes 6 hours, during which time the creature undergoing the transformation is unconscious. Once the transformation is complete, the creature rises as a servitor under the aboleth overseer’s control.

If an aboleth dies, its servitors immediately fall unconscious and begin to revert to their pre-ritual forms. The reverse transformation takes 6 hours, during which time the creature can’t be roused to consciousness or healed. At the end of the reverse transformation, the former servitor awakens at full health with dim yet dreadful memories of its experience as an aboleth servitor.

Special: The caster must be an aboleth overseer.

Create Golem
You construct a massive golem and imbue it with a spark of elemental life.

Level: The golem’s level or higher
Category: Creation
Time: 1 hour; see text
Duration: Permanent
Component Cost: 5,000 gp per level of the golem
Market Price: 150,000 gp
Key Skill: Arcana
This ritual animates the body of a golem. The ritual can be performed only after the golem’s body is crafted—a process taking 1 day per level of the golem. The actual ritual takes 1 hour to perform. At the end of the ritual, the golem awakens and begins following its creator’s commands.

Create Guardian
You craft an amulet and link it magically to a massive construct built to protect the amulet’s wearer from harm.

Level: Guardian’s level or higher
Category: Creation
Time: 1 hour; see text
Duration: Permanent
Component Cost: 5,000 gp per level of the guardian
Market Price: 120,000 gp
Key Skill: Arcana
This ritual animates a guardian. Before the ritual can be performed, the creator must build (or pay someone to build) the guardian and its control amulet. Construction time is 1 day per level for the guardian plus 1 day to fashion the amulet. The actual ritual is performed after the guardian and amulet are created and takes 1 hour. At the end of the ritual, the guardian awakens and becomes attuned to the amulet, following the amulet wearer’s commands.

The amulet allows its wearer to communicate with the guardian, which follows its master’s commands as best it can. If the amulet is destroyed, the guardian ceases to function until a new one is created (costing 100 gp per level of the guardian). The amulet is considered a magic item that fills the wearer’s neck slot.

Create Helmed Horror
You bind an elemental spirit into a masterfully crafted suit of plate armor, giving rise to a helmed horror.

Level: Helmed horror’s level or higher
Category: Creation
Time: 1 hour; see text
Duration: Permanent
Component Cost: 5,000 gp per level of the helmed horror
Market Price: 150,000 gp
Key Skill: Arcana
This ritual animates a helmed horror. Before the ritual can be performed, the creator must build (or pay someone to build) the helmed horror’s armor and greatsword, a process taking 1 day per level of the construct. The actual ritual is performed after the armor and greatsword are created. At the end of the ritual, the helmed horror awakens and begins following its creator’s commands.
