D&D 5E How Do You Feel About the Rate of New WotC Game Content for 5E DMs?

How Do You Feel About the Rate of New WotC Game Content for 5E?

  • Overwhelmed. There is much more content than I can use.

    Votes: 12 13.2%
  • Satisfied. WotC is putting out content at the right pace to satisfy me as a DM.

    Votes: 49 53.8%
  • Dissatisfied. I would like more options to use in the game..

    Votes: 30 33.0%

I am happy with the rate of book publication. I think I want to see more articles, insight into books, analysis, more UAs for upcoming or experimental stuff, that kind kind of thing. I guess they are doing videos, but it is hard to "analyze" or detail in an interview.
I'm having a hard time remembering any UA material written for DMs. That's not discounting the possibility that there could have been an edge case, but the vast majority of it by far is player options & player toys with little if any regard for the needs of DMs. Can you name a few GM focused 5e UA releases we've seen from wotc?

I meant UA and other articles on various topic, but you bring up a good point. DM related content would be interesting. At some point, we might see the 2024 math for monster creation. This would be DM related. Also, monster creation is important but has been an "arcane" art, rather than a math calculation. Monster building is something I would like to see in a UA playtest, for DMs at large across the game community to hammer thru and make sure it balances robustly and accommodates various monster concepts.

It's not like it has an expiration date!

True but it really is unprecedented. How much material was there for any module before 5e? They were all pretty much fire and forget.

Now? Each module is this entire line of stuff, both pay and free. It’s great.

And as far as DMs side of things, again, it’s an embarrassment of riches. It’s not like that 300 page pdf I linked is all that rare. There’s a freaking mountain of stuff out there.

Isn’t this what everyone wanted? A really healthy 3pp community supporting the game? If WotC starts ramping up its production schedule, that’s only going to hurt 3pp. After all the hoopla about the ogl, I’d think people think the health of the hobby depends on 3pp.

Surprisingly, I think the release schedule is something WotC has been doing really well in my opinion.

They release a varied amount of campaigns, adventure anthologies, monster supplements and a reasonable amount of character options.

I personally don't buy half of what they publish. At the pace I play homebrew campaigns, I often don't need as much. Plus there are other publishers who fill certain niches.
