How do you handle "farming" in your games?

That depends on your profession (farming) skill. :D

Well, you did say, "in general." I couldn't stand too much more detail. This isn't Farming D20 after all.

Ah, but the beauty of the system is that it can be... :D

And, I agree that Magical Medieval Society is an excellent sourcebook for your needs, db. :)

Building Scare Crow: Craft DC 15
Building Scarecrow Golem that actually chases down and kills crows: priceless.

There are some things that magic can't build. For everything else, there's Craft Wondrous Item.

New Wondrous Item:
Magic Beans
Plant 'em in your field and see what pops up!

New Farm Animal:
The Golden Goose
A goose that lays golden eggs!

New Farm Crop:
The Field of Dreams
A magical field of corn that leads to the plane of the dead!

One of my players made a Wondrous Item that was a potted plant that produced goodberries each day. They named it Wilson, mainly because the Druid (who made it) wouldn't go anywhere without it and kept crafting elaborate pots for it and talking to it to encourage it to grow...you get the picture? Actually, I can't think of anything else he did except for talk to the plant, about the plant, and feed everyone berries with an excited smile on his face after battles.

My wife and I once ran a game at a convention where the entire plot concerned the adventurers bringing 200 pigs to market (a 50-mile trek). It was great fun. We had individual miniatures for every pig.

Testament: Roleplaying in the Biblical Era offers up some stuff on Farming in its Community Managment section.

There's a little bit of stuff on crops, beer and wine making and animal husbandry with a couple of DC modifier tables.

When I saw the topic, I could have sworn you were having a problem with your players going to a certain monster-heavy area and setting up on a standard ambush point.

In other words, "farming" as done in an MMORPG.

I thought that exact same thing.
