What do you like to see in your character creation rules?

I am treating a player character as "race (innate) + culture (learned)".

Language, proficiencies, background, class, and ability score improvements while level are all "culture".
I think that's a fine personal interpretation, but many posts in this thread alone make mention of floating or 'none' before any of what you described enters the picture.

It's a misrepresentation of the poll.

But as they say, 'Lies, damn lies, and Statistics'. ;)

"Player character = race + culture", is an informed POV.

Among these nonrace posts, many want the "class" to correlate the abilities, which is culture.

(Either the class gives score increases, or the abilities are chosen with a class in mind.)

If you ask 10 people if Class is Culture, how many do you think say yes?

I know you have a particular view on things, but if you conflate easily understood individual concepts, you muddy the understanding.

There is no need to obfuscate things by calling it all culture, when we reasonably understand Class != Culture.

How is Bard not culture?

How is Ranger not culture?

How is Monk not culture?


For example, the Uda drow Cleric theocracy is a culture.
 

Note. I am aware the Sorcerer blurs the line between race and culture.

But. Even if certain human individuals inherited one of the dragon ancestries, most humans did not. The Dragon Sorcerer with dragon blood is an exception. Moreover, even the Sorcerer must train to master ones own draconic potential, and this training is culture.

The culture that Lolth promotes differs from a culture that celebrates healing as a cosmic force.

A Paladin order that swears an Oath of Ancients and a Paladin order that swears an Oath of Vengeance, are two different cultures.

You are literally pointing out that the class does not define culture.

Class = Job.

My job, does not define my culture.

Nobody would fill out a census and enter Police Officer, as their culture.
