How do you write a module?

My brother wants to write a 3rd Ed. module. Neither of us have ever done anything like that and we don't play many modules, so we don't really know where to begin. Since you all are such a well of information :D , I thought I'd pose a few questions to those who have some experience under their belts. And even those who don't, feel free to add your suggestions.

  • What character levels was your module designed for?

Did you start from the beginning of the module and work forward, or vice versa?

That's it for now, but I'll probably have some more qs in the future. Thanks!

I've never written a published module, but I've wriutten adventures that work like them so here we go.

Levels are tough. You need to make sure the module is challenging yet not impossible for the levels you choose. I tend to think the lower level adventures are easier then the higher one since lower level characters have fewer abilities to worry about.

I come up with the plot and look at the whole picture and then I slowly fill in the details. I usually map out the course of the adventure, figure in some places for the PCs to get off course and try to have some fun encounters on the way.
