Before I make the claim of "my way or the highway" to my group, I'm interesting in knowing how others do the +50% from an Empowered Spell

How do you adjudicate this feat in your game...?

let's use False Life cast at 10th-level as the example (cos it'll make a player of mine happy)...

Option 1: (1d10 + 10) x 1.5 for an average of 23hp

Option 2: (1d10 x 1.5) + 10 for an average of 18hp

which do you use...? enquiring minds want to know...

Check the example in the phb, they use magic missile as a direct example (d4+1)*1.5

though curiously the SRD doesn't use that example, which is where my thoughts on the less "powerful" interpretation comes from...

so does anyone play the lower end Empower...?

heh. It's only recently that I found out you can't empower bull's strength

that was one of my less-prefered changes from v3.0... I like the variable abilities enhancers...

I don't think there are any examples in the SRD, are there?
To answer your question, I use the higher end empower.

Empower applies to "variable, numeric" effects.

10 hit points is not a variable numeric effect.

1d10 + 10 = 11 - 20 hit points is a variable numeric effect.
