as for other ways to find gamers.

post a lot.

for some reason people think that if you post a lot you must like the game.

this one guy, i'm not naming names ;) , lets call him Joe:D

emailed me after seeing that i post a lot. i put him in touch with several other groups i knew in the area.

we kept in touch afterwards. when someone left our group i let him know we had an opening.

et viola.

i know others have done emails to fellow gamers. right Meepo?

Long-time friends, and only friends. I'll never game with strangers.

way to stay open-minded

I would have lost out on playing with two great groups of people in the last few years if I adopted that "wonderful" creed.

*shrug* Meh. Just answering the original thread's question.

I knew that would come across wrong, but was too lazy to rewrite it. I meant it as two seperate comments. One, even your friends were strangers at one time and the second comment is aimed at the line children are taught from a young age and not related to your comment. I agree, you have a right not to want to play with strangers and if my gaming friends were still local, I would have the same feeling as you.

Game on!

ShadowX, what kind of game are you looking to start up? D&D, or something else?

Don't know about everyone else, but it was far from easy to get a group going when I first tried. I've been buying 3E since it was released 3 years ago and just recently (last 6 mo) have finally been able to get a solid group for a campaign.

What did I do? Played a lot of Magic and Mageknight where I could find gaming. Found some guys that use to play D&D (like me) but hadn't tried out 3E yet. Mentioned I wanted to start up a campaign. That's about all it took. Not everyone worked out of course, but we have a pretty reliable group now.

So don't give up. It may take some time, but if you keep trying and be patient, you'll find some fellow gamers.

;)

Everyone around here talks like its so easy to find alternate games, so maybe I am missing the easiest way to find a group. So how does everyone else find\create their gaming group?
Posting at the local game store (long time DM starting a new group; I've been in that group for over 2 years now).

Other players at an RPGA (Living Greyhawk) event. We still do mainly RPGA stuff, but I've started a home game ("Savage Species" visits 'the City of the Spider Queen') with three of them, my kids, and the son of someone from my regular group.

My son asked a friend if he could play (next door neighbor). They moved away, but he still comes over once in a while to play DnD.

And I might start playing with a group which my son's scout master is part of. We were hosting a den meetings, and the leader saw my DnD & CoC books.

So, leave clues everywhere. From the direct (postings at FLGS) to the mundane (books lying around the house) to the obscure (Cthulhu for President bumper stickers).

Wear cryptic t-shirts that only gamers will recognize. Make obscure references at work.

One time, a co-worker called someone from another department a troll. I said, "I thought trolls were tall and green," and a different co-worker said "And regenerate 5 h.p. a round." Gamer found. We never played in each other's games, but I did get a continuing audio story hour over lunch for the next several months.
