Thank you so very much. The first post in this thread is an example of what chatting does to people's minds (reducing it to badly punctuated rants with the occational three-six letters that mean nothing thrown in).

I read your options, and I find that none of them suit my campaigns. My players choose what they fight, not me. If the DM is choosing what who and why the players are fighting something, then either he/she is forcing the fighting, or he/she is railroading.

I blame Battlenet.

I vote Vaxalon offical EN World Translator:cool:

I agree with creamsteak in that my players determine what they fight, it's just that I make sure they aren't sure what they are fighting:D And of course if they continue until they die its not the DMs fault is it?  The monsters aren't so bad it's the NPC's that the players interact with that are difficult;)

I make it a little tough for the players. While I am not out to kill them they will (and do pretty often) die if they make bad choices.

I don't pull any punches. My players are experienced gamers who are intimately familiar with 3E combat, so I do my best to provide a challenging environment. All I do is make sure the ECL is somewhere near what they're capable of handling; sometimes too easy, sometimes too hard. I let them figure out which is which :D
