How hard is it to find players?

Lots of gamers in my area, but hard to find compatible ones.

I find it relatively easy to find players for RPG's, even before we had a FLGS. Now we have one, its easier than ever.

My players are either old friends I played with in highschool, or one of the following:

• Two contacted me via spielerzentrale.de (German)
• One contacted me via my homepage
• One was contacted by one of my players after having posted at the Wizards board looking for a game in Switzerland
• One was contacted by me after having posted at d20-welten.de (German) looking for a game in Switzerland
• One I met via Meetup (I just left it up for a month)

It's a tough call for me. I run my regular game from home and that's somewhat difficult. It's especially true since we are mostly older gamers with many of us having families that draw away our time and ability to regularly meet.

However, I know if I want a game I would have no trouble going down to the FLGS and getting into a game or starting a game. Almost every night of the week there is a game going.

Austin has been a pretty easy place to find players - and heck, I don't play "the world's most popular roleplaying game" anymore. I imagine it'd be ultra-easy to find D&D players.

There are a surprising amount of good ones in the Dayton, Ohio area but very few of them come out for Game Days and such. Of the people in my Friday night group (7 people and me) only two were there. Of my Sunday group, only one was there (and it was one from the above 7).

Too easy. Gothenburg has quite a lot of gamers. Fairly often I have a waiting list of people who want to be in my games. A nice position to be in.

Not hard. Finding players that I actually want to invite into my home and see regularly: a bit more challenging. I've done pretty well here, though. The only complaint about my group is how spread out we are geographically. From the most westerly house in the group (mine) to the most northeasterly is a good 45 minutes one way, mostly on the Interstate.

Relatively difficult in Big-D. With six million people spread out over 9,000 square miles, the ratio is pretty small. Add to that all the other kinds of fun you can have, then finding a gaming group can be akin to job hunting. You have to look through want ads online, network at Meet-ups and hang out at local game stores, making it a time-intensive task.

It took me four months between leaving my last group and finding my new one. Good thing my current group is full of great people AND we've held our schedule of twice a month sessions since I began with them in April.

Bizarrely enough, I haven't had much luck finding players in the college age crowd in the DC area, which you would think would have tons. Maybe I just don't know where to look. Of course, this might be because I have such a well-established group I'm picky about messing with the chemistry.
