All things are temporary. Gaming books more than most. This is a poll and a topic to discuss the causes of game book mortality and how you've adjusted to the grief.

I lost to the elements, back in the 80's my first edition OA binding melted and the pages fell apart. I think I managed to not loose a single one. I'm really careful with my books, I have every one I've ever bought and they are all in really good condition (knock on wood).

Never lost any. I'm very careful with them, so even if the covers and binding eventually get a little battleworn, they hold up indefinitely.

I keep my books in very good shape. Partially due to the fact that I don't get to game very often. So for long periods of time they are just sitting on shelves.

Gives me no pleasure to record the first stolen vote.

Including but not limited to... Dragon 1-115 (plus two copies of Strategic Review), 1st edition AD&D core books, 6th reprint edition of white box D&D, everything GDW published for 'classic' Traveller including Journals 1-24 (except 5), White Dwarf 1-117, CoC (and a lot of adventures), RQ, Ringworld, Skyrealms of Jorune, RM, SM, MERP, a whole bunch of SJ games, 1st and 2nd ed. Warhammer (Battle, FRP, 40k) and hundreds of miniatures, including a dozen that were handmade and painted by GW art wizard Jon Blanche (a gift to me when I did a small piece of writing for him).

I gave away the original art for a Fighting Fantasy book done by Jon, too (sorry, Jon but you'd forgive me if you ever met her).

I now own some 3E D&D stuff and and the reprinted little black books compilation. Oh yeah, and the Dragon CD-ROM!

So it goes. :(

I had to mark 'confiscated' because there wasn't the exact option for me. I mean, what do you do when you find that your Mother has decided that the bookshelf looks untidy and gives the whole lot away to a charity shop, including all your gaming books you haven't taken away to University with you?

Don't worry - I forgave her - eventually! ;)

Other than Croth's OA, nobody's lost books to natural causes? Nobody's played 2nd ed., where the books were rigged to explode in use?

Mine were stolen. Core books, most of the splat books, CoC, FRCS, MotP, De&Dg, PsHB. Plus some issues of Dragon and Dungeon. Plus the Living Greyhawk Gazzeteer. Along with all my homebrew campaign info.
