How long does Pin last?

Pin Your Opponent: You can hold your opponent immobile for 1 round by winning an opposed grapple check (made in place of an attack). Once you have an opponent pinned, you have a few options available to you (see below).

So, if you have pinned someone, do you have to 're-pin' them next round??

From the SRD:

If You’re Pinned by an Opponent
When an opponent has pinned you, you are held immobile (but not helpless) for 1 round. While you’re pinned, you take a –4 penalty to your AC against opponents other than the one pinning you. At your opponent’s option, you may also be unable to speak. On your turn, you can try to escape the pin by making an opposed grapple check in place of an attack. You can make an Escape Artist check in place of your grapple check if you want, but this requires a standard action. If you win, you escape the pin, but you’re still grappling.

Pretty much every round you get an attempt to get out of a grapple and a pin is move performed when grappled. But you move from pinned to grapple and then attempt to get out of the grapple - so you are at some real disadvantages to get free.

Sure, but lets say I pin you, and on your turn you try and break the pin, but fail.
Now on my turn, are you still pinned, or do I have to 're-pin' you. The description seems to indicate that it only lasts for 1 round.

All of which means (and I think this is what people get confused on) that if you have someone pinned you can't actually take advantage of that fact unless you have a BAB off 6 or higher. You can't do any of the "if you've got an opponent pinned" actions because you never have an action coming to you while the opponent is pinned. It's counterintuitive but correct. You also have no bonus to maintain the pin. If you are evenly matched with someone you won't keep them pinned long, which again is counter to most people's experience.

This does have a weird issue in the game.

PC: "I pin the Wizard. Yes, success!"

The Wizard readies an action to Dimension Door once he is unpinned.

The pin ends. The ready action occurs. The Wizard is gone.

PC: "Darn silly rules."

Readying an action is not one of the things you can do while pinned. You can only try to break out via a grapple check or escape artist. Nothing else unless you have a special ability or feat.
