Just a poll to see. I'm actually curious what the half life of a D&D group is. I suspect that most groups shift their members every 2-3 years. That, over the course of 10 years, the length of the current edition, most groups have fallen apart and reformed with new players. So, the question is, how old is your group. And to define terms:

Age of Group= the length of time that the SHORTEST term member has been a member of your group. So, if four of you have gamed together for ten years, but, you got a new player last week, then your group is one week old.

Yeah, unfair, biased, poor polling terms, whatever. It's my poll and that's my definition.

I currently have 4 groups I play with.

Group 1 - 6 of us have been playing together since 2002, we added 2 of our kids last year, and another friend this year. So 6 months under your criteria.

Group 2 - I've been playing with them since 2014 (7 people total), and I was the most recent member added. So 10 years.

Group 3 - I've been playing with them since 2009 (6 member total), the most current member was added in 2011. So 13 years.

Group 4 - Been playing together since 2019, lost a member in 2021 (Was 6 members, now down to 5). Losing a member isn't mentioned in your criteria, so it's been the same group for 5 years (or 3 years if you count the dropout.)

I moved to a new city, set up a forum post looking for a new gaming group... and completely and instantly forgot about making that post. Then one day 6 months later I remembered it, and logged on to check on it, just when it had gained comments only in the last 3 days.

And that's been my gaming group for 15+ years now.

I don't believe in the no-win scenario
I had a solid group from 09 until 2020. Covid broke us up... Current group I have is an online PF1 game that has been going for just over a year now.

Two members of my current group have been with me for seven years (since I got married), but we've had trouble keeping more than the three of us. Just added three more players about a month ago.

Group 1: we had our session zero in November 2019, so nearly five years. Every member was new to playing D&D with me and some in general.

Group 2: this group has members I have played with 31, 27, and 24 years (on and off) but the newest member joined up in late 2023. The campaign itself started in 2020.

I have one table that's been together just over five years, another that's been together for somewhere over six and a half. Both tables contain people I've been gaming with (TRPGs and boardgames) since like 2000.

The majority of our group have been playing together since the early 1990s, although some members have been playing together since Chainmail (early ‘70’s). Our group’s newest member joined around 2010. There’s 7 of us and we rotate DM duties.
