How long to scribe a scroll?

The PHB says it takes 1 day per 1,000gp base price of the scroll.
So how many can you create in a day? Is there a 1 per day maximum, or can a character create 40 1st level scrolls per day?

That seems a bit silly, but I can't find anything that states otherwise.

The creator also needs a fairly quiet, comfortable, and well-lit place in which to work. Any place suitable for preparing spells is suitable for making items. Creating an item requires one day per 1,000 gp in the item’s base price, with a minimum of at least one day. Potions are an exception to this rule; they always take just one day to brew. The character must spend the gold and XP at the beginning of the construction process.

Always one day.

Which, frankly, is harsh for Wizards, who need weeks of downtime to get a small collection of 1st lvl scrolls.

Although you can multiple spells on a scroll if time is short and as long as the total cost isn't more than 1000gp it still takes a day

Yeah. For example, it is possible to scribe an "ammo belt" scroll of 6 Scorching Ray spells (2x3x25x6=900gp) in one day.

Can they be different spells of different levels?

There's no restriction in the rules.

Yes, it takes Miss Archmage an entire day to write her scroll of Detect Magic. Great job; way to keep the action moving along.

[Houserule]Just limit all types of crafting to 1000gp/day. This can mean more that one scroll or potion in one day (like a batch of cure light wounds potions), or it can mean less (with this rule, it now takes a month for a Wish scroll).[/Houserule]

I've played with a DM who allowed up to 9 spell levels to be on any given scroll (cantrips, as always, counting for half).

It worked out well.
