How many chumps can a Lvl 20 Barb take?

I read the thread title, and all I could think was...

How many chumps could the chump-chopper chop if the chump-chopper could chop chumps?

If you ask me, the interesting possibility that this thread offers is to analyze what kind of tactics and equipment would be useful in large-scale D&D engagements.

What happens if you take away the barbarian's cloak of displacement (or use the 3.5 rules for it that specify it only works so long each day)?

What happens if you make change the character to a fighter? Everything else is the same but he has no DR.

Then give the fighter adamantine fullplate?

How about Armor of Invulnerability?

What if he just has normal armor but a 20th level mage ally casts protection from arrows on him?

What if you leave everything the same but remove the heavy fortification?

And, what happens if you vary the mooks?
We've discussed hordes of mooks with longbows. How about hordes of mooks with 14 strength and greataxes? Glaives? Halberds? Does it make a difference if they use battle axes or heavy picks instead of longswords?

How is the mook horde effected by a warpriest's inflame ability?

How about a bard's inspire courage? (+1, +2 or +3 versions).

How about Greater Cloak of Bravery?

What if the mooks attempt to grapple? (It won't do them any good against the 20th level barbarian because at their +3 to his +28 or so, they can't possibly win. But how high a level fighter type can the mooks grapple to the ground? And, how many of them does it take to do it?

If you used Greater Magic Weapon and Flame Arrow to give 50 archers one +2 flaming arrow each, how does that affect the combat? What if you do it three or four times?

I'm guessing that the answers to these questions could play a big role in the kinds of legendary heros' equipment might have a place in your campaign. A +1 heavy fortification mithral breastplate of invlunerability might be the kind of item that makes an ordinary skilled warrior (say, a fighter 8 or so) into Achilles. If so, there might be plots that revolve around replacing that breastplate with a fake or stealing it so that the villain who recovered it is unable to overcome the armies of the free world by himself.
