While I've played DnD CRPGs and read many FR novels for years, I've only recently gotten into DnD tabletop gaming and I'm starting to become a collector of dice. I only have 4 full sets of 8 dice - 3 from the store and 1 from the starter DnD kit - as well as some other dice I bought individually - but many of the gamers in my group have DOZENS of dice in various shapes, sizes, colors and flavors (watermelon....yum).

I'm wondering if there are any other dice hounds out there.

I have between 50 and 100 but I think it is important to note that at some point in collecting you no longer own the dice...the dice own you... :p

See, I had to vote "50-100" because I've lost several hundred. At one point I also had a bag of about 200 stolen from me after a game (I only found one at the loser's house, but at least I know who did it).

where's my slot on this poll?

i own untold ten's of thousands.

i avg about 1-2 lbs. per month for the last 24+ years

Well, I'm not new to the hobby but I've only got one set.

The other players in my group mostly have one set apiece, except for two guys who have maybe three or four sets each.

A guy who used to game with us had several hundred. And he tended to be a bit greedy about it. At almost every session he would accuse someone of having one of his dice, and the accused would always have to point out that they have one complete (matching) set. I think that he may have been a little obsessed over them.

I never have understood the need to have more than one set. A couple of spare six-siders, sure. I'm not trying to imply anything about you fellows here who have multiple sets, but the guy I knew who was dice-obsessed was also a big "Knights of the Dinner Table" freak, and I think he just did it to emulate the way they are.

(Not that I have anything against that comic.)

Besides, all the money I save in having a sane number of dice means more game books for me.

I only have about 8 sets of dice, but then when I buy I go more expensive like the Dwarven Stone dice. While my overall numbers may not be great the average price per die certainly is.
