I edited it for you, adding 3 and 4+ - hope that doesn't skew the results too much.

And as for me?

1 group.

In the past I have sometimes been in 2 or 3 - but I cannot imagine having the time anymore.
Thanks (though I suspect we already have an inaccurate number of "2" votes)!

I'm currently only in 2 groups, but I've played in up to 5 different groups/campaigns at a time at one point. It's all in time management, how often you want to game, and what kind of gaming you're looking for.

My main group currently meets maybe once a month, or once every two months. My other group meets about once every three. This means, I'm constantly jonesing for games. But since my SO and I don't have the freedom in our schedule right now to join a third group, we've started a 1 on 1 campaign that we can play whenever we feel like it.

We've also thought about starting a once a week, whoever shows up games, gaming night once our schedules calm down a bit. Not a contiguous campaign, but more of a rotating GM one shot thing.

I've been in several groups before, made up of the same base of people, running several campaigns at the same time, whenever they could get together. Eventually things got hammered out, and those people sick of starting new campaigns every week and not having a nice circle of commited people that showed up EVERY session got together, and now we've been our single group with one campaign running, every Sunday, 1 PM to 10 PM for the last few years.

Over the past few months, my wife (Queen Dopplepopolis 'round here) and I have become increasingly frustrated with the availability of our current gaming group - despite attempts to schedule sessions well in advance, we almost never have a full group for an entire session (and those sessions are few and far between). Stacked on top of that, we're becoming somewhat frustrated (my wife to a greater, myself to a lesser degree) with some of the players at an interpersonal level, due to various factors that are really not important to the ensuing discussion.

Run a campaign that doesn't depend on the same players showing up every session. I run a very episodic Greyhawk campaign right now in which one of the requirements is that by quitting time, all the players are out of the dungeon and resting. That way, the next time they head in to the dungeon, they might be going in with a different group for various reasons. Some of them might have wandered off. Some might be working on projects. Others might be patrolling the borders, etc. Whatever. The point is, the campaign allows a different party to get together from a central point (in this case the city of Greyhawk or the village of Hommlet) to adventure together.

Two, partly because my first was on near indefinite sabbatical and also because I thought I needed to game with different people to develop as a gamer.

I voted 3, but it's more complicated than that, of course:

1) "The Guys": DM for the high-school/college friends every wednesday.

2) "The ENWorld Group": We sort of round-robin it, so I either play in or DM for a group of people I met here (or through people I met here), We meet on the weekends. Depending on people's availability that's every week, every other week, or further out (like now :( ).

3) "Scarred Lands": I play in a 1/month Scarred Lands game, but the GM has been very busy, so that might disappear. On the other hand her husband is starting up a bi-weekly game on Fridays that we're all joining., So that's either 1 or 2 games.

To everyone who plays in more than one group..........

How in the hell do you find the time and players?????????????????
I don't know whether to be impressed, jealous, or sad at your pathetic lives. (That last part was a joke, but seriously 3 groups, 4 groups?????????)

Over the past six years I have made it a point to meet with local gamers through EN World mostly but also through the local cons. This has really given helped get me the people to fill seats. I only game two nights a week, but I know that could easily be 4 nights if I choose to join more games. I could make the time for that, but really like being able to do other things.
