How many people here do actual magic? How do you do it?

well JPL, the argument that I'm pushing eventually comes down to what the scope of the universe is that you're gaining the "cheat codes" to. What relation is the mind to the universe?

I'm afraid this argument may be exceeding the scope of this forum, so if you guys want to start an email discussion on this, feel free to email me at omokage at omokage dot com and I'll set up a list. Though I'll continue posting here until a moderator or someone says we shouldn't.

I concur. I think I shall recuse myself.

The results of magic will never be anything so profound as to indicate that they stem from "the cheat codes of the universe." They always follow perfectly normal, natural laws of nature.

In virtually all circumstances, they can be easily dismissed as coincidence. You can never tell with any certainty that what happened wouldn't have happened by itself if nobody had done any magic at all. Or perhaps things were prevented from occuring that nobody, even the practitioner, will ever actually be aware of. Example: perhaps a protection spell made it so that some other person didn't get drunk who would otherwise have been driving drunk and killed you.

I will tell you what other magic practitioners will tell you. I have seen magic work. I have seen changes affected in the world by the work of myself and the others in my group. I believe. And to people who clamour for "proof," I say if you're happy being a skeptic, then be a skeptic. There's nothing wrong with that.

You are correct. Frankly, I'm surprised it hasn't been closed already. We left D&D behind a while ago.

i've always beleived that magic or magick for that matter, is simply an extention of human will.

Human will is the most powerful force in the universe, IMO, and magick is just one way to manipulate it to receive desired results.

There has been the occasional D&D-ish comment, or I should say, comments that offer some interesting material for RPG's.

In any event, I think Wicket had his question answered, I'm seeing it veer off into pro-magick/anti-magick waters, so I shall declare this topic dead and void for reasons of national security. (Well, forum security.) :)

Sorry about the spelling, Merak. ;)
