How many Powers in the PHB?

The powers also have to be balanced and thought through. I suspect there will be around 80 powers per class, as many people before me have speculated.

This model is as made for making splats. The good thing is that you don't have to buy splats ;). I have never owned anything beyond core in any RPG I have played, and I won't change it this time ^^.

PS: Core as in PHB, DMG, MM.

Of course, with what WotC-Dave just revealed for the Druid you can easily deduce that 80 powers x 8 classes = 640 powers. So, yes you're essentially right, and I was over speculating.

I expect that the 80 will get cut down somewhat with playtesting too. He mentions it isn't the final version of the druid, and I'd be shocked if all 80 survived.

Whereas I expect there will be at least 1 power. Everything more than that is clearly just speculation.

Well I just just did a D&D 3.5 to 4e class comparison for 1st level using the DNDXP sheets and notice that 4e classes get a lot more, especially the spellcasters from their 3.5 counterparts. Warlords is not there cause not really good info to figure out.

Cleric: Turning plus three 0-lvl spells and 1 domain spell. 4e: Turning, Rituals, Healing, Luck and 5 spells
Fighter: One feat. 4e: 2 combat challenges. 4 powers
Paladin: Smite, detect evil, aura and no spells. 4e: Lay on Hands, 2 Channel Divinities and 4 spells
Ranger: Enemy, track, wild empathy and no spells. 4e: Hunter’s Quarry and 4 powers
Rogue: Sneak attack, trapfinding. 4e: First Strike, 1 Rogue Tactic, Sneak Attack and 4 powers
Warlock: Eldritch Blast plus 1 spell/invocation. 4e: Pact power, curse, Prime shot and 4 spells plus
Wizard: Scribe scroll, familiar and three 0-lvl spells and one 1st level spell – Wizard Implements, Spellbook, Ritual Casting and 8 spells
