How Much Bashing?

While I recognize the rights of everyone to discuss various sides of topics on the boards, exactly how much bashing is within the conceptual grounds of ENWorld?

Over on the d20/OGL board it's gotten to the point that people regularly chime in on threads with no real comments to make other than to pan the subject of discussion. It's gotten to the point that it seems most product-centric/company-centric threads eventually devolve into: X product sucks/No Y product sucks.

Is there a limit? Should it be taken down to reporting individual posts/posters regularly? I find myself getting vitriolic more than I would like and the general aura of negativity surrounding the whole board means I find it more and more wise to just refrain from entering into any sort of discussion to avoid the inevitable snipe-fests that follow. If there's nothing fun to post, there's no reason to bother reading anymore.

ACtually, it is a good part of the boards if you like and are playing those kind of games. I haven't noticed what HeapThaumaturgist refers to, but that doesn't mean it isn't there.

I guess it is about the thread about d20 DarkMatter, where some people complain about actual reprints (mostly from a Dungeon Magazine, it seems) and theoretical reprints. It didn't seem heated to me, so I didn't report it, but I didn't stay in it very long.

It wasn't just that, that was just the thread that broke the camel's back.

Pretty much, as I said, when products come up, recently d20Modern and SpyCraft2 in particular, it all but immediately breaks down to: "That system sucks and killed my cat!" "Oh yea, THAT system stole my car and got my girlfriend pregnant!"

It really seems to be limiting any coherent discussion of products since people say inciteful things and then the other side gets defensive, etc etc back and forth. Usually it's the same few people, as well, who just can't let a thread go by without slipping in to spit on things.

Well, sometimes in a middle of a thread about a certain game system, someone else will come in and say "Use X System instead. It's so much better. Blah blah blah". Which then gets people who don't like X System involved, simply to refute the supposed greatness of system X. Which admittedly hijacks the thread, these is is a d20 board, not a System X board.

Maybe there needs to be a section for non d20, non OGL systems?

Please report it when you see it. the d20 & OGL forum has typically been a happy place with free swapping of ideas and generous treatment of each others views, and we want it to stay that way.
