I am sure there are even older ones out there, but I wanted to show how long I have had his books.

They look in poor quality...thats because they have been used...repeatedly.

I began running the one on the right this past Monday Night.

As far as how much do I love Gary? These past few days have shown me it is far more than I ever realized.

Yeah, me too. A few of my buddies were shocked about how surprised they were as well.

I never knew the guy personally. Never met him, but like a lot of people, his influence was significant on my life. I still play 1st Edition occasionally, and reading the DMG, you definitely get a sense of the passion the guy had for his creation. It was nice to hear that the whole death of TSR / 2nd Edition evilness that made him out to be such a bad guy was left behind and he was what was intended: the grand patriarch of several generations of gamers.

Something I feel like what we lost was the "randomness" to the game. He was the father of that, for me, as well as all the other stuff. First Edition taught me that modules and adventure paths and all that are more of a burden to play than otherwise. You can really just sit down and play.

The only real way to answer this question is to roll for it randomly. I got a 78 on d%. I don't have the table in front of me, but I expect that results in "more than I thought I did a few days ago".

When I first saw the thread title, my initial reaction was of course "I love Gygax with all my body (including my peepee)" because after all the guy who created the ninja class truly has REAL Ultimate Power, but I figured I should have some class. :)

Although the first adventure I ever played in was Tom Moldvay's "B4: The Lost City", some of my favorite books were penned by Gygax himself.

Isn't it d8 + d12 for reaction rolls? :)

"Hello, I'm <rolls> pleased to meet you!" - Gary Gygax, Futurama.

So much that it feels like I've lost an immediate family member. In fact, his works have been with me longer than most members of my immediate family. I wouldn't be doing what I now do for a living if it weren't for him.

I wasn't SOBBING or anything but I, too, was surprisingly affected. I was choked up and wiping away a tear or two for a couple hours. For a guy who I met once only long enough to shake his hand, and whom I traded board posts perhaps twice... yeah. I was quite moved by his passing.

The part that D&D has played in my life in various ways is incalculable. He was clearly in major part responsible for that whether he knew it or not. Just writing this I begin to feel that sadness again. MY world at least is a notably lesser place without him simply being out there because of what this game has meant to me.

Indeed, sir. Well done.

I have long thought of myself as kind of anti-Gygax, disagreeing with him on many things about RPGs. But the degree to which his death has affected me makes me realize how much I truly respected the man, and how much what he gave all of us means to me.
