How much money have you spent on 3.x?

$200.00 in books and PDFs Maybe $250.00
probably $350.00 - $400.00 including minis.
And, yes, it's what will probably prevent my jumping to 4.0. I've just got way too much invested in the current version of the game to start over. I'll pick and choose 4.0 stuff (especially PDFs) but probably won't actually get the new core books.

As for the specific 4.0 we are getting, the amount of money that I have spent has had no impact at all. At this point, I am simply unimpressed. I didn't like the "preview books" (i.e., TOB, Star Wars: SE, and MM V) and, while, I like several of the design goals to fix certan elements, I have not cared for the majority of solutions presented so far.

I think I passed the $1000 mark within the first two years of 3E, given the number of splatbooks, monster manuals, core books, campaign settings, etc., that I'd picked up by then. I hit book buying burnout (BBB) somewhere in Year 3 or 4, I think, and slowed down quite a bit. I would guess that I've spent well over $3000 on 3E/v3.5 alone, and that doesn't include miniatures.
I wouldn't be surprised if my entire collection of RPGs and support material doesn't exceed $10,000, but that's two decades of collecting in four major game lines (D&D (various editions), oWOD, HERO 4th Edition and Traveller (all systems)).
Sadly, though, I think it will soon be time to start letting go of some of this acquired gaming wealth. My wife would prefer that we do some spring cleaning and perhaps get rid of some of those boxes. *sigh*

I wouldn't be surprised if my entire collection of RPGs and support material doesn't exceed $10,000, but that's two decades of collecting in four major game lines (D&D (various editions), oWOD, HERO 4th Edition and Traveller (all systems)).
Sadly, though, I think it will soon be time to start letting go of some of this acquired gaming wealth. My wife would prefer that we do some spring cleaning and perhaps get rid of some of those boxes. *sigh*

I'm likely past the $3000 mark and well on my way to $4000. Of course, I cut way back a couple of years ago, but really the "damage" was done by then.
As for its impact on 4e. Yeah it has a significant impact on my decision not to "upgrade". I'm carving a comfortable 3.75 rut and I don't see any reason to climb out. I'll likely pick up stray bits of 4e, likely stuff I can get online, but I won't be changing systems anytime soon.

By my calculations, if you buy most of your hardbacks from amazon then you'd need to own about 50 of them to spend $1,000. I don't doubt I've spent that much but I may have to revise my initial post down to $2K. I buy a books for many different games so It wouldn't surprise me if I overstated things a bit.

I've spent more money than I care to admit on D&D3x/D20 books over the past eight years, but I am looking forward to D&D4e. I still have some books from OD&D and AD&D2, but with each new edition, I've kept the few books I've liked (such as AD&D1 Oriental Adventures, AD&D2 Complete Ranger, and D&D3.0 Kingdoms of Kalamar).
The rest, I've sold or given away. i expect many D&D3.5 splatbooks to share that fate, but settings tend to be easier to use than class-specific books or modules in most cases. I intend to be more restrained in what D&D4e texts I pick up, and some of my players want to restrict our initial party to the new core books.
