I'd guess around $400. Of course, those are all books I've since either sold off or traded to get other RPG material.

And it has no bearing on my decision regarding 4th Ed. The new edition has me excited, and I have the core book set pre-ordered, but it has nothing to do with my previous buying (and selling) habits with DnD.

Sadly, though, I think it will soon be time to start letting go of some of this acquired gaming wealth. My wife would prefer that we do some spring cleaning and perhaps get rid of some of those boxes. *sigh*

Don't do it! Somewhere down the road you'll regret it, and then say to yourself: "Self, I could really use that book I got rid of two years ago. Now its out of print, and I'll have to overpay for it of ebay." :D

4 3.0 books at $20 and 13 3.5 books at $30 (supporting my FLGS). That's $470, plus PDFs, minis, and software puts it over $500.
It's connected to my not going to 4E in this way -- I bought 3.5 materials because I really liked the system. I didn't see the need for 4E and still don't.

Probably bought anywhere between 8,000 to 10,000 USD worth of stuff, though most (7,000) was paid for by VCU.

My investment is the primary cause for not moving forward with 4E. I might be persuaded, but my games have never hit the brick walls that 4E breaks down so I don't need new rules.

Heck, if anything, it'd be frightfully annoying to memorize a new ruleset when I've spent 5 years mastering 3.5!

By my calculations, if you buy most of your hardbacks from amazon then you'd need to own about 50 of them to spend $1,000. I don't doubt I've spent that much but I may have to revise my initial post down to $2K. I buy a books for many different games so It wouldn't surprise me if I overstated things a bit.

True. The 70 or so hardbacks I've got actually count for little of the great glut of my collection. Most of it was spend on DDM. Also, in my more generous days I made sure to have multiple copies of core (still a good idea) and multiple copies of certain splat books (which I've come to regard as a mistake).

Just looking at the Wizards of the Coast stuff I'm over a couple grand. And I have to have four times that in third party material. And that's after slimming down the collection over the past couple years too.

And even with all of this money in 3.x I am looking forward to 4ed. :D

Seconded. I guess I spent the same amount once more on miniatures.

I can remember as a kid totaling up everything I spent on AD&D 1st ed, basic, expert, etc and at the time it came up to $2,500+....my mom's response when I told her: "DO NOT TELL DAD!"

Ballpark figure.

Do you think the amount is at all related to your acceptance of 4.0?

I'm into it well above $1,000+. If I had to guess I'd say it's more like $2,500 or $3,000 but that's just a guess.

I'm looking forward to 4th edition and not looking back.

I have apparently over $1,000, which is a little scary. It does affect my willingness to buy into 4e beyond the core books (I was going to say just the PHB, but I know I'll probably get the other core books too), but that's because I have so much 3e stuff I want to use. I bought most of my books in the year b/w college and law school, and haven't had a ton of time to use them. :) Also, what I've seen of 4e doesn't excite me the way 3e did before it came out. Maybe I'm just getting old.

I bought the original first three at $20 each when they first came out. Sunless Citadel and maybe something else. So the $60-90 range for me. (I did not buy any 3.5E stuff, even though the 3E group I was playing with changed over. But one of the guys bought me the PHB. Very nice of him!)

So, no, what I spent on previous editions has no bearing on what, if anything, I'll spend on 4E stuff. Currently not gameing at all ( :uhoh: ), so there's no real incentive for me to do so other than curiosity.
