How much time do you spend on RPGs?

Well, in the past week I've been working on programming a full function PCGen into my TI-83+ using calculator basic. I already have all the basic features implemented......I REALLY DON'T WANT TO KNOW.

Days I work (3), about 1-2 hours. Days I'm off (4), about 4-6 on average. That's including all the stuff I do out of simple interest/hobby rather than gaming, but that can have strong effects on my game, such as reading history / nature / fantasy books, watching history and military history shows on TV, etc.

Yeah, too much time. Per week:

Reading (Dragon, new books, PDFs, etc.): Probably 5-6 hours
ENWorld & Message Boards: Around 10 hours
Playing: About 5-6 hours (every 2-3 weeks)
Working on my campaign: About 5-6 hours
Miscellaneous e-mails/IMs with fellow gamers: About 7-8 hours

Darn. That's a lot of time. Most message board and e-mailing time is first thing in the morning when I get to work, during lunch, and then after work while I wait out the bad So. Cal traffic before driving home.

I figure for every hour of active game time I put in about 30 minutes of prep/reading/writing/etc. Run two games right now for 6 games/month, 6 hours per session. 36+18 = 54 hours/4 = 13.5 hours a week.

Work 40 hours/week
Sleep 56 hours/week
Total hours: 168/week

Remaining hours: 72 hours/week

13.5/72 * 100 = 18% of free time spent gaming. Not as bad as I thought it would be really.

Only 8% of total time makes it sound even better. :p

If you count working on my book (the setting for which is what I'm running my campaign in), then it would be about...ohhh...2/3 of the time I'm actively doing something other than eating or sleeping (i.e. not while I'm watching TV, movies, etc.)...so, that translates to...hrm...

~30 hours a week...wow.

Not including the time I'm working on my book...

~15 hours a week.

Since I'm essentially homeschooling and don't have a job of any kind (yet), I have about...oh...8-10 hours of free time in a day. Unfortunately, all but one of my gaming buddies go to 'normal' school, and one lives about an hour away by ferry and freeway...so, we only meet about once every three weeks for 'real' sessions. We have occasional smaller-scale ones about half of the time that we're not doing one for the *main campaign.

*Only a 'main' campaign because the last two 'main' campaigns fizzled out, once due to me being a first-time DM with first-time players, and the second because the other DM got tired of DMing. This new campaign started up about a month ago, and the players like it, so that's good enough for me.

I'm with the too much brigade!

Actually I'd guess a lot of prep, scenario design, and rules reading time around 5-8 hours per week.

Actual playing time is more like 3.5 hours every two weeks.
:\

Not enough as I'd want! I think I average a couple of four-hours sessions per week, plus several hours of preparing. I do all my preparing and DMing while connected to the internet.
