Thanks for all the responses!
Addressing some of the good points made below:
bret: Yeah, you're right about that level requirement. I suppose that makes it just that much less likely she'll ever make it that far.
Poltergeist: My initial feelings were similar to yours. Since this character is basically filling the "thief" part in a standard character mix (the other characters are a barbarian, wizard (enchanter), cleric, and ranger), it seemed to me that my skill points would be better spent on the "classic thief skills" overall. (I'm tempted to see if I can borrow the ranger's character sheet so as to minimize skill overlap.) Darn that requirement for 4 ranks in Knowledge: Arcana!
Omega Lord: I have no idea whether this campaign will even approach epic levels.
drakhe: I went through the listed uses in the PHB for Spellcraft, and actually, none of them really fit my vision of what the character might know how to do. I just wondered if there were other uses I was missing.
SimonMoon5: My reaction to the usual uses for Spellcraft were pretty similar to yours. I think it would be pretty unusual for this character to try counterspelling (without using Dispel Magic), especially since the kind DM allowed me to pick spells from Oriental Adventures to emphasize the character's, er, unusual background and outlook.
tarchon: A few points into a trained-only skill might be the way to go (probably later on, to reflect experience). Unfortunately, I can't take advantage of that nifty synergy with UMD, since Arcane Tricksters don't get that as a class skill (!!)
Thanks everyone,
Pazu
