How often do you restart/change campaigns?

My sob story

I don't think I've ever really been a part of anything that could be considered a "campaign" until recently.

Growing up, my close gaming friends generally lived far enough away that we could only get together on weekends, and maybe only once a month or so. When we did, we generally did one-shot (whether they were intended to be or not) sessions of AD&D or Villains & Vigilantes.

In college, the longest-running game we had was a CoC "campaign" that ran for maybe a couple of months, i.e., until the PCs all died and Cthulhu took over the earth. :) I also ran a Champions campaign that ran for a few sessions.

Now, I'm in a group that meets (well, tries to) bi-weekly. The other players have been gaming together for decades; I hooked up with them in the last few months via the 'Net. We've made it through 4-5 sessions of a D&D3e campaign based on Necromancer Games products, and are now giving the DM a "break" and switching to another guy's SWd20 campaign.

Other than that, a group made up of a mix of high school, college, and adult-life friends are trying to start a tradition of getting together once a year (!) to play (we're strewn all over the US). Assuming we continue the same campaign each time, that game could last for a LONG time. :)
