Victoria Rules
I voted "even for roleplaying encounters" because that's closest to what I actually do: the grid is used for any situation in which it's relevant where things (and people!) are located in relation to other things.

These situations are combat (always) and exploration (often) for which in my vote I substituted roleplaying.

But it's a 10' grid. 5' squares are just too fiddly, and it takes far too many of 'em to make a decent size area. :)

I sometimes"use grids for roleplaying encounters" only because for many years I've been doing story recaps with photos for my games, and sometimes I like to show the NPCs as well. If I wasn't doing story recaps I wouldn't bother. But usually it's just for combat.

The pic below was used in LMoP just for an NPC interaction with Glasstaff.
