D&D General Poll: Did you watch the D&D cartoon when it was new?

Did you watch the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon at any point during its original run?

I was a 10-year old kid who had been playing D&D for two years when it came out so I was into it when it came out. I didn’t see a lot but I enjoyed it when I saw it.

My brother and I also had three of the AD&D action figures, Warduke, who I believe made it into an episode, Elkhorn the dwarf, and the big barbarian.

Looking back it’s surprising there was not a line of action figures of the cartoon main cast at the time, at least not that I remember.

I loved those action figures. I owned Elkhorn because my love for dwarves dates back to when my dad read The Hobbit / The Lord of the Rings to me at an impressionable age; Strongheart because the knight-in-shining-armor character type has always appealed to me; and Kellek the evil wizard, whose staff glowed in the dark! It was that sickly green color that all glow-in-the-dark toys were in the 1980s.

Wish I still had those guys. And yes, I know some of them were re-made recently. Ish.

Indeed! Seems like those would've been huge sellers.

I did not watch the D&D cartoon when it was new. I did not watch it when it was old. I don't think that the D&D cartoon was even on my radar when I was a kid, and I watched a lot of '80s cartoons in the '90s. I think that the fundamental problem with the D&D cartoon is that it focused on young kids as its main cast of characters, which is pretty boring for kids IME.

I recently opined to a friend that Marlon Wayans was the absolute best part of the movie, which should give you an idea of how bad it was.
If I recall correctly, he was going back and forth between this and filming Requiem for a Dream. That had to be a headtrip for him.

The neighbor across the street from me had the USS Flag.
There was always that one kid. It still boggles my mind that they greenlit a 7' long toy. Even for the excess of the 80s, that just seems so absurd.

It's interesting to note that I don't think I knew anyone who had any D&D toys. And now that I think about it, AD&D is kind of a weird game to tie into a toy line and cartoon for young kids. Unless there was a special episode where Hank and Eric ask Dungeon Master to watch over Bobby because he's too young for the Random Harlot Table.
My brother and I had a few of the toys (I still have my original Warduke), some even before we started playing D&D. Heck, I remember reading the Endless Quest books and playing the Fantasy Forest boardgame before as well.

You say that like it’s some kind of astonishing revelation, but it’s well known that this forum (and the message board format in general) skews towards older age groups.
I knew that that was a general bias.

I did not know that that bias was on the order of outnumbering younger age groups by a three-to-one margin.

Was alive, started playing RPGs in its last year of run, but was not interested in D&D as a game/genre until a few years later.

'MURICA, F--K YEAH!

In fairness this is just one random poll on a highly specific topic. But everything we know is that the ENW audience skews way, way older.
