That link tells me lots about what Google Analytics does for the site owner and how it gets information/data based on visits, usage, and so on but says nothing about where/how it actually gets its age-gender-etc. information about users.

Don't get me wrong - I don't care whether you-as-a-site-owner know my age etc. info or not. I'm more curious about how accurate the info is that GA is giving you that it can't hard-mine through what/where/how I browse.

I don't know your age. It just gives aggregate anonymised data. I can't look at specific users. All I know is the big aggregate numbers - x% are y.

As to how Google does it, I don't know exactly - I don't work for them. I'm sure they have lots of ways to gather data on web traffic. You could probably find out my (heh) Googling around!

It wouldn't need an accurate profile of everyone to provide accurate aggregate data. I expect it samples and uses exciting algorithms.

If they move off yours onto my lawn, I'm sending them right back. Neighbourhoods these days ...

Likewise except I'm 70.

I'm entitled to all the prizes because I'm the oldest.

:D <-- toothless grin smiley

62. Old enough to feel old, but not old enough to claim a prize. :-S.

I regularly show my age with my gaming group that are aged 22-33. I say things that us Old Skoolerz know like "Conga Line of Death" and "I would definitely touch that with a 10-foot pole" and get nothing but blank stares...

I'll be 42 in 5 weeks. Been gaming since '86 I think, started with Red and Blue Box, but quickly moved to AD&D, then to 2nd, which was my most played version of D&D. Played a ton of games since, including a bit of 3.0 and a reading of PF. Now back to D&D with 5e, and running my first D&D campaign in 14 years in about 2 weeks since I convinced my group to give it a whirl. Fun times ahead!

Older is how Old

The theory holds. At least so far.

The chart is a little hard to read. Blue is for this poll. Orange is the google analytics.

45 in March; started with the Red Box, then moved to AD&D 2e, which is the D&D version I played most. Then 3.0 for a few years, a bit of 4e, and since 2014, 5e on and off (I have three online games going, and I ran a tabletop campaign last year.) I have been running Red Box again since a few months, and having a blast. But as far as more "modern" versions of D&D go, I prefer 13th Age.

45 here, started with the D&D Basic Set in summer camp, been playing and running all types of RPGs since. Now its mostly my home brewed mecha game, 5E, and Dresden Files.
