Oh sure, I think WotC should have made more classes years ago. Now 3pp has done an excellent job at picking up WotC's slack, so we don't need them anymore. Valda's Guide from Mage Hand Press for example has a bunch of great new 5e classes in it.
I'dsay eh.

The IP holder will always want a big piece of the pie and will get envios of easily missed attempts.

Ideally you want WOTC to handle all the major iconic and popular archetypes. Because they will attempt them. And they design the system.

IE WOTC will try it anyway. And since they didn't make new classes, they forced existing classes to get jammed into them. Seethe Beastmaste, 4 Element monk. Gish, Hexblade, the Champion, the Battlemaster.

See the current laytest Warlock where they are trying to force the Gish into the Warlock instead of just making a new class.

These is no 'Ten Years ago', option so 'with the Artificer it is.

And then support them. Don't just say 'welp, we shut you up about this class you wanted, now we never have to care again'. Support them with feats and magic items and new subclasses and updates and actual care.
Class groupings are clearly intended to carry a lot of the load there in future.

I would be fine if the new, 50th edition had a new class. Not sure what is missing, but as part of the jubilee, then fine. Just would not want any psionics, or maybe not any already produced in older editions. Come up with something original.
