I have not watched Xena since it was originally on the air. I might have to re-watch it.
Some long time ago there was a thread in here in which the challenge was put to describe one's whole campaign in 10 words or less. Mine was something like:

"JRR Tolkein, may I introduce you to Xena, Warrior Princess"

Campaign's still going. Underlying theme is, too. :)

Hey, I only have so much prep time... if an encounter can be used in another locale...

Nothing wrong with that, most DMs would probably agree. Put "Schroedinger's encounter map" to good use! They'll never know that the Orc tribe they met in the swamp wasn't supposed to be there all along, instead of the mountain pass they never went through... ;)

"You said this swamp was sweltering hot and a muddy mess. Why are these orcs wearing heavy furs and skiing towards us?"

Of course... but some things I wasn't able to do. No getting in a caravan that was targeted by the kali-worshiping thugee (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thuggee). No getting tangled with the Temple Carts (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temple_car). Such is life of the GM :)

Have you been followingthe "judgement calls vs. railroading" thread? Statements like this one are argument-starters over there... :)

"Why can't we fight more goblins instead? Goblins never get boring."
*Rolls bunch of dice behind the screen*
*Looks disappointed*
"Sorry, but the goblins haven't arrived. They left their skis behind because they didn't think they would need them in a tropical forest and now they've gone back to get them."

"You just made that up. Are you taking this game seriously?"

"Yup. The goblins just failed an Intelligence(Nature) check. I rolled a group check with a DC of 5. They rolled a 4. I take this dice rolling very seriously."
