None of the above: I'll more than likely switch when the campaign after this one concludes;

That'd be my answer, too.

I like most of the changes, but I've never felt so invested in a game as I am in 3e/3.5.

I feel the same sense of investment, and I think my players do, too. My reaction is a bit different, though.

I want out of 3E, ASAP. I don't care if it's 4E, Fantasy Hero, nWoD, Aces and Eights, or something else. I never want to get this invested in a system again. I'm already sorting through my books and figuring out what I can ditch.

Going forward, whatever game(s) I end up playing, it will probably only be with the core (in the 3E sense) books with a minimum of suppliments.

As a Designer:
When the SRD comes out, I'll write third-party product for 4e, both for my own multistatted products and for other companies who want to put out 4e material. I'll still release 3e-compatible versions of all my own electronic products until such time as it no longer seems to be a market.
I've sent queries to the new Dragon, but hopefully there have been technical difficulties because it's looking like post-Matt Sernett Paizo all over again in terms of lack of response to freelancers. :(

As a GM:
IF it proves better for my Tactics/RPG purposes than Star Wars Saga Edition, I'll switch immediately or 3-6 months afterwards, depending on where I'm at in a SWSE campaign, if active in one at all. Right now, I'm thinking 4e WON'T be better for my purposes, so I'll probably stick with SWSE. That's doubly true in light of some of the new d20 Modern (er... Modern20, now) material coming out of RPG Objects.

As a Player:
4e seems almost certain to suit me better than 3e, so I'll get in on at least one campaign to try it out. But, it's still D&D, and most people in my area are likely to still run it largely as high/epic fantasy, so the genre won't suit. If someone embraces the Sword and Sorcery vibe they seem to be going for with some of the 4e material, I'll be all over that.

Err, other?

Likely in October, when they've had a chance to do some errata and some spellchecking and release the special edition books. I'll certainly look at the SRD beforehand, but I don't buy manuscripts. I prefer books that appear to have seen an editor.

As soon as it's out, I'll add it to the many options of playing D&D I have at my disposal.

/M

I will purchase on release and will start a 4e campaign when I have the players to fill it. Hopefully that won't take very long.

I'll buy it straight away, spend a bit of time poring over it and examining the rules carefully, then get a game going when my current campaign ends or the new Eberron campaign setting comes out.

Looks like I will be sticking to C&C and just mining 4E for what I like. I definitely don't see me buying into 4E like I did 3E.

I could be wrong, but I don't think so at this point. Still won't know for sure until I see the real deal.

If I switch at all (currently looking unlikely), then it will be at the start of the next D&D campaign I start after I finish reading the 4e books... which I will pick up on release day, or as soon thereafter as I can manage.
