How soon will you switch to 4E?

  • As soon as it's out

  • When they have a decent amount of supplement books. (I.E. "complete" series, or somthing like it)

  • I don't know if I will.

  • NEVER!!!

Won't be switching, as my players are completely uninterested (and not sure if I even have the time to convert my campaign(s) over even if there was any interest).

Coming off of a single 3½-hour combat last night. Yeah, you could say that ;)

OK, I have to ask. What was the hold-up? I can't believe it's the rules - it's got to be player indecision and discussion around the table for it to take that long. Or you'll have to have bucket-loads of enemies to do that.

Pinotage

Given that I am not currently playing D&D, haven't been for a year and don't forsee it in the near future, coupled with the fact that I played OD&D, dropped it when 1st ed AD&D came out, more or less stayed away until 3e, and never really upgraded to 3.5, I doubt I'll be jumping on the bandwagon very quickly.

I'll probably show up again for 7th or 8th ed. ;)

OTOH, I think the majority of gamers will switch to the new edition within two months of its arrival on the stands.

It's all good.

I'll be sticking with 3.5, but maybe looking to houserule in interesting 4e concepts. I doubt I'll ever play 4e. Maybe I'll *upgrade* in a couple of years when 5e comes out.

Well I didn't know that 5th edition is coming out in 2 years, if that is the case I'm waiting for 7th edition.

…Smaller, faster and cheaper.

Well, the plan is for the game I'm currently playing in to stop next summer, so the GM can take a break if not end it on some big climax. He's been running for a couple years now, he deserves a break. I've agreed to run 4E and put it through its paces, so we can decide whether to continue 3.x or move on to the next edition. Whether we'd keep the same characters and re-imagine them, or move on to a wholly different campaign, is still up in the air. So, my answer probably SHOULD be 'immediately' - granted nobody makes a prima facie case the new rules suck within the first few days of its release.

However, it looks like I may be studying abroad in Europe around the time of release, sooo....maybe not. It might be more like a month or two.

I'll switch when two conditions are met:

1. The 2nd printing is out, with errata (and not the expensive, leather-bound set, either, a basic printing).

2. I'm finished running my 3E campaign, as well as other systems that are in the queue for our group.

My best guess right now is around 2010. I could care less about the supplements, as I expect to buy, at most, a small fraction of them.

Sometimes I enjoy being an early adopter, with all the rules discussion, excitement, etc. Sometimes I don't. For the next 12 months or so, I'm definitely in a "don't enjoy it" cycle. :D

I'll pick up the PHB when it comes out. If it looks good, I'll switch my campaign over. I've liked most of what I've been hearing...although there are a few things that make me nervous. If I don't like the new rules as much, I'll either stick with 3.5 or go back to 1st or 2nd edition. In any case, I won't be making a gut decision before the books even come out. I'm also not adverse to putting in some house rules if there are mechanics I'm not fond of.
