I don't understand. You would rather quit playing D&D than play in a 4e campaign that is being run by a good DM? 4e SRD sight-unseen? And you are only going to use the 4e SRD to tweak your 3.5 game, even if it looks good?

Hypothetically speaking, if you can't play 3.5e because there aren't enough players anymore, what game would you prefer to play to satisfy your high-fantasy RPG desires?

I dont know how much clearer I could have made my statement.

Sure, I'll play in a 4E game under a good DM provided that I get the 4E PHB as a gift or I can borrow one to make a character. However I think that over the past few years that I've given WOTC enough of my money just to be told that the system that I'd been supporting is broken and that I should spend money on their new system, which so far I'm not really liking. So, unless 4E wins me over (which barring a minor miracle, I'm guessing it wont) then I'll keep playing a tweaked version of 3.5. When I can't find players for 3.5, I stop running and playing D&D and play / run something else.

And yes, I'll simply play or run another game that I already own (Fantasy Hero, HARP, Rolemaster, heck even M&M, etc) since 4E seems to be (so far) so much of a radical departure that it might as well be a different game.

I will look at the PHB and probably monster manual as soon as they come out, and might just get the base three all at once. But switching is a different story. That depends on my players and how much I like it. I'll give it a fair chance.

If D&D gets much more anime, I'm gonna be staying behind the curve and liking it.

One thing to consider alot of the people that would vote "never" may not even be on this section of the boards. I am only here because a friend sent me a link. Why read the 4E boards if you are not going to switch.

I voted "never" for many of the same reasons as other. Mainly 3.5 is a great game, I have no need to switch as a DM. If a good DM invites me into his 4E game I will buy the PHB and give it a try. Just like any new game. However, I feel insulted that the same designers whom hailed the merits of 3.5 are now saying it is broken and we must switch.

Thinking back to the anouncement of 3.5 and all the complaints, you would think that some people will learn from their mistakes and wait for 4.5. You know its going to happen, they just have to wait for the ink to dry on 4.0. WoC has to in order to keep the income flowing.

None of the above. Once my M&M series is done (which will start in a 4-6 months, when my AoW game is done), then I'll probably come back to D&D, using the 4E rules.
