How to deal with city descriptions?

I definitely never use specific directions. The players don't have to go to the detail of saying which way they turn at a particular junction or road (unless it's dramatically appropriate, such as a chase scene).

If the PCs know the location of where they're going, then they just need to say "We head back to the inn" or "We head across the city towards the City Hall"; if it's not getting repetitive, I'll give them an overview of the districts they travel through. Maybe some special landmarks or an encounter.

If they don't know - they'll usually ask someone. The guard, or innkeeper, or whoever, tells them how to get where they're going; and then the above process applies.

Also, check the Forgotten Realms Wiki entry on Scornubel, here. Most information in the wiki is pretty reliable and taken directly from the books; some bits and pieces may be made up (or I just don't know the source).

Yep, have seen both book and wiki site. Very useful combined with the above advice.
I am working on the land in between Scornubel, Trielta to the north and the Reaching woods to the west. The grass/ scrub land in between those areas (smack in the middle actually).
I am going to make this tall grass Prairie with occasional undulating features with an occasional bog, rocky out crop, thrown in etc. I think the land probably has areas of scrub also that the occasional lightning strike would take out every couple of years and wind throw would also keep the trees down. the closer to the trade road you got (opposite side to reaching woods) the more man made burning would have occurred leaving much more open grass lands for grazing and also to drive monsters back in the the wild areas by depleting game in certain areas.
Anybody have anything to add....maybe this should be on another thread...
Thanks!
