How to overcome Hold Person?

3) Five levels of Occult Slayer

4) Three levels of Holy Liberator
Occult Slayer is from Complete Arcane? (maybe)
Holy Liberator is from Complete Warrior and is a rockin' PrC -- kind of a Chaotic Good counterpart to the paladin.

Agree with others than this character needs to bump up his Will save in general. Iron Will is never a bad feat (I often take it at 3rd or 6th level of fighter as a general feat). Cloak of resistance is also good -- it helps all saves.

If you want to pester the DM for a custom +Will save item, that might work. I know there are tons of them in Neverwinter Nights. ;)

Yeah, man, your real problem is your will save, not protection from hold person. Think big picture.

I do not think I have a feasible way to get my will save up. I'm open to suggestions here too, but I need a boost of at least 6 and more like 8 to overcome the hold person's that are being thrown my way.

Thanks, and I will look into improving his will save as well.

What about Remove Paralysis? Consider that you can make purely mental actions when under the effect of Hold Person; instead of trying to break free from the control, take the purely mental action of delaying (and use a free action to glare murderously at the opposing cleric). As soon as your cleric casts Remove Paralysis on you, stop delaying, and express your hurt feelings to the opposing cleric.

As a follow up to this, say Bob the Barbarian and Clint the Cleric are fighting. Clint gets out the Hold Person on Bob, and Bob fails his save. Clint decides next round to spend it prepping a coup de grace. Does Bob only get 1 more chance to make the save, or 2 since coup de grace is a full round action for Clint?

Clint's turn: Clint casts the spell. Bob fails the save. Bob is held.
Bob's turn: Bob tries to break free as a full-round action. Bob fails the save. Bob is still held.
Clint's turn: Clint tries to kill Bob with a CdG. Bob makes the save, tho. ;)

...unless Clint used a Scythe, of course. :D

You can use Iron Will, a cloak of resistance, and a periapt of wisdom to help with your saves. Having all three will help a lot.

If Clint acts first, and he is close enough, then Bob would not get another chance. If Clint needs to move closer, and say draw his weapon, then Bob would get one more chance. A full round action is still completed at the end of your turn.

I don't believe this is correct. Bob cannot break on the first round he is held. Can someone with a PH at hand double check this, please? I think this is a difference from the PH and the SRD.

Can't see anything in the PHB, which would point to that.

P.S. Glad you simply corrected that typo in the quote. ;)
