How tough is City of the Spider Queen?

Yes well, I wasn't commenting your group specifically, nor this particualr adventure, just the general practice of adventurers everwhere to slaughter first then, if the penny should actually drop, attempt speak with the dead.

It might not be practical, but adventurering isn't about doing what is easy. And once again, I speak in general terms.

It depends on how EVIL the opposition is. If they are just low level grunts, they aren't really going to cause huge amounts of damage.

I agree that CE EVIL drow and their "allies" are not likely to give you a break because you spared their life a while back. However, they are more likely to betray their own allies, should you obtain the right information, and with that information, gain lots of advantages.

Also, they may be more likely to surrender should they see they aren't going to get put to the sword. Seeing that your opposition is 1) Overwhelming 2) Merciful has bad effect on your morale. You could even recruit them to your cause! Just be certain to stay on top of things cause if it looks like you are getting weak they'll abandon you, or worse, turn on you.

If you really didn't want the hastle just disarm them, strip them naked and set'em free. Most would probably get killed by their own side for "co-operating with the enemy" or some such. Would YOU trust someone who the enemy had captured and set free again? Really?

Third game was a slaughterfest ... for the players. We don't game many hours at once, so are still really in the beginning.

At lvl 10 we had two CR 13, two CR11 and two CR 9 encounters but we were still at full hitpoints and with about half of the spellcasting recourses.

Last time we got lots of information from a dominated drow, we now also captured one, but have to wait a day before one of the clerics can cast Tongues or something like that.

Interrogating prisoners makes the game much more fun, and gives interesting information :)

Our DM is actually close to despair, because the encounters in the City of the Spiderqueen (at least the early part) fail to challenge the party. In fact, our killer fighter-type could probably run most of the module by himself.

As for SR. YES it sucks, but Summon Monster V (Girallon) and Summon Monster VI (Dire Bear) more than make up for that.

I would need more information on Bane/Zentil Keep to really be able to help you out with that. Also keep in mind that we aren't nearly finished with the adventure. Things have been slow with people going on short summer trips all the time.

My group is normally in Oathbound.
