How useful is DMG2?

I think it's one of the best 4e books to date. So many good things in it.

DMG 2 is one of the best books WotC has released for 4e, and probably one of the better gaming books for gamemasters in general. I have used it extensively and have found the advice solid, creative and very inspirational. I would say it is a requirement for anyone running 4e whether you're new or old.

I found the DMG2 to be pretty obvious and everything that I hadnt already incorporated in my game I found pretty useless.

That is mostly just personal preference tho. I havent wanted or needed advice on player types or campaigns for a couple decades, so I didnt really care for those sections. Most of the rest, like the monster themes and alternate reward schemes I had already come up with on my own.

So, I didnt care enough for what was in it to buy it, but your mileage may vary.

Ok, so I went ahead and ordered it. Should arrive in a few days. I might use Sigil for paragon afterall to maximize its use. Hehe.
Let us know if we've been right or wrong about how helpful it is. I need to edit my posts to make it look like I was always giving good advice after all.

A lot of the Lawsian GM-advice stuff in chapter 1 rather feels like it wandered in from a different game. So it's certainly useable beyond 4e. :)

OK, finally got it in the mail. Man it's amazing!!! No regrets buying it. I always wanted to stick to heroic tier campaign, but the paragon chapter makes me interested. It's a really good guide.
